Eyeglass Recycling

Lions Recycle For Sight Program

The Janesville Lions collect used eyeglasses for shipment to Third World countries. The used eyeglasses collected in our community can help children and adults in developing countries enjoy a better quality of life. In most developing nations, eye care is either not affordable or inaccessible. And for many, poor eyesight that is left uncorrected can lead to unemployment for adults and a child’s inability to attend school.

There are 30+ collection sites in the Janesville/Milton area (see map below). After the glasses are collected locally,  they are sent to the Wisconsin Lions Recycling Center located at Camp Rosholt near Stevens Point. There they are inspected, cleaned, the prescriptions read and then packaged for use on eyeglass missions.

Over the past number of years, members of Lions Clubs from Wisconsin have conducted many missions to Mexico and Honduras, delivering hundreds of thousands of pair of glasses to those in need.
